Recycle Your Old Orca Wetsuit

Did you know that you can return your old Orca wetsuits to The Sports Room for recycling? Working in partnership with Orca and Circular Flow we will return unusable wetsuits to be repurposed into new products, reducing waste and closing the sustainability cycle.

We love this initiative! In an ideal world, we’d have time to turn the wetsuit into a mouse mat, a beach bag or even a garden kneeler ourselves but time always seems to run away, on us anyway!

Orca - A Sustainable Brand

We chose Orca as a brand to stock at The Sports Room as we liked their focus on sustainability. Their wetsuits are made from Yamamoto Neoprene, which is made from limestone rather than fossil fuels. It’s also a very durable material so your wetsuit should last a long time if you look after it properly. Orca believe in a future free of plastic waste in the sea and that’s why they use innovative materials, reuse resources and prioritise durability.

But even the best materials reach the end of their cycle. Wetsuits, whether made from limestone, tree resin or fossil fuels, are not recyclable, and it’s estimated that over a million, the equivalent of 8400 tonnes of material, end up being thrown away annually on a global scale. This number has grown enormously - you only have to look around Wicklow Town to see the huge numbers of people enjoying the sea. It’s been difficult to find a place to recycle wetsuits - customers often ask us what they can do. So we’re delighted that Orca have hooked up with Circular Flow.

What To Do With Your Old Wetsuit

If you feel your Orca wetsuit has reached the end of its life, bring it into us  at The Sports Room and we’ll be sure to send it on to the Circular Flow facilities in Bulgaria where it will be reused to make other products, in effect, making them raw materials for new creations. Be a part of the change.
