EcoTrail Wicklow Competition Winners

Meet Jenny O'Brien and Tristan Gresty who are the winners of our recent competition in conjuction with InnerFight Ireland and EcoTrail Wicklow. The prize was customised training with InnerFight to prepare them for the race, passes to EcoTrail and all the gear they need for the event from The Sports Room.

Jenny and Tristan were in The Sports Room recently picking up their prizes. Take a look at what the trail running gear they'll be wearing for the race.

While they were at The Sports Room they caught up with their coaches Simon Connaughton and Sharon Moorhouse for a chat.

Tristan, how's the training going?
Training is going really really well…the first week was an adjustment but everything after that feels like building blocks all the way.

Structure is new to you? How has it been?
Definitely having someone arrange the structure and tell me what I need to do to get better is a godsend and a game changer for me.

How do you find running with a community?
I normally run solo so this adds a whole new dynamic to it. It’s different training when you’re running along with people. Competition is good. Smart training adds another layer.

What’s your experience with the eco trail?
I did a last minute 30k last year. This year I’m going for the 47k. I’m looking forward to applying myself and being smart for the whole thing and get a good consistent race done.

Do you feel prepared?
I feel good and quietly confident. I hope I don’t eat my words! I feel it will keep building as I go along so I will be in a decent place.

Jenny, how’s your training going so far with InnerFight?
I really like the fact that Sharon who is training me met me where I was at rather than me being at a certain place. I realised I was running outside my heartrate a lot and I was really tired. So this training has shown me how to run within the capacity I should be running in.

Anything you’ve learned so far in the training?
The heart rate stuff, the fuelling and just not over doing it. I love the trails (more than the road running) because I have a visual impairment and can get the mindfulness in a safe space.

What distance are you running in the eco trail?
I’m doing the 30k. I’m really excited. It’s my first trail race. I’m looking forward to the atmosphere.

Today you got new gear. How was your experience at The Sports Room.
I really enjoyed the experience. The experience was very personable. The kit is really really good quality. I got everything. I’m delighted with the Hoka Challenger 8, especially the 8mm drop. I'm looking forward to trying them out.
